Day 7

After breakfast we visit the Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune. The eccentric owner has an amazing collection of diverse objects including Fiat Abarth racing cars, classic motorcycles, vineyard tractors, jet engines and sixty-five jet fighter aircraft.

If this is too much testosterone for some, a visit to the only remaining, independent mustard factory, the Moutardérie Fallot in Beaune can be arranged. Here you will be taken through the process and given the opportunity to make your own mustard. A large range of mustards are available for you to buy.

Lunch is at Château Chassagne-Montrachet. Montrachet is the top white wine vineyard in Burgundy and possibly the world. Here we conduct a tasting of their range in association with lunch.

After lunch, we continue south to Château Chamilly. This is a family run business and is more typical than perhaps the better-known producers. The Château, owned by the Desfontaines, is from the 14th Century. Véronique Desfontaine and her sons are in charge of a vineyard that stretches over 16 hectares, while the winemaking facility shares buildings with the working farm.

Xavier Desfontaine, who has been to New Zealand and worked in Central Otago vineyards, will conduct a tasting of their range.

We return to La Terre D’Or around mid-afternoon to prepare for what we expect will be the gastronomic highlight of the tour. There is some  time available to indulge in some last minute shopping in Beaune. As this is our last night together, there is a team meeting at 6.30pm to indulge in some lighthearted entertainment before dinner.

Tonight we go to Les Lameloise, one of only twenty-seven three star Michelin restaurants in France.

The restaurant is a 16th century mail relay station, formerly used as part of the horse bound postal system first founded by Louis XI. Since 1920 three generations of Lameloise have been serving high quality cuisine at the restaurant and Jacque is currently the chef. This should be a memorable occasion.
