Day 6
A number of possibilities follow breakfast today. Those who feel in need of some activity can join in, in a 25km bike ride to Lunch.
For those who do not wish to bike or only want to bike part of the way, we can make alternative arrangements. After all, the tour is all about flexibility. The biking however, is very relaxed and there is time for many coffee stops.
The cycle ride takes us through the villages of Volnay, Pommard and Puligny-Montrachet, the heart of the Côte de Beaune. The Montrachet vineyard is considered to be the source of the best white wine in the world.
Just south of Puligny-Montrachet is our ultimate destination, Remigny. No matter how we get there, lunch is at Restaurant L’Escale. The restaurant, well known by the locals, is alongside the Burgundy canals. After eating there, you’ll understand why it is so popular.
After lunch, depending on team and stamina, we make our way back to Beaune, (either by bike or car), by way of Château Meursault.
Most producers in Burgundy are small, backyard operations, but in Meursault and Pommard there are impressive châteaux. For historic reasons and artefacts, these are well worth a visit.
Château Meursault, dating back to the 11th century and restored in 1973, has an impressive network of cellars. Richard prefers the Château Pommard (1726) wines so for that reason we will stop to take a tour of the Château and take pleasure in a tasting.
We return to La Terre D’Or.
Dinner tonight is at Restaurant La Garaudière in Levernois, rated Bib Gourmand by Michelin and some 5 minutes to the northwest of Beaune.
We particularly enjoy this dining experience, as it is a true local village restaurant with a real buzz. Your Charolais meat is cooked on an open fire in full view and the menu offering traditional cuisine is excellent.
