Day 4

After breakfast, we are off to the rich and colourful meeting point of the “Beaunois”, the Saturday market and the major market day in Beaune.

Covering many city blocks, you can buy anything here that the appetite desires - fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese, and spices. Organic and local produce is available from the farms close-by. Elsewhere you can buy everything from antiques to berets.

We will be accompanied on this expedition by Alex Miles, a chef and originally from the USA. He adopted French nationality in 2004 and lives with his French wife in Dijon.

He is a chef who lectures on food, identity and culture at universities throughout France as well as consulting for the food industry. He has a radio show where he interviews chefs and writers on their books about food and appears on French television programmes dealing with food and culture.

Alex will select local produce and on your return to La Terre D’Or you will take part in a cooking lesson. Under Alex’s tuition, you will prepare a typical lunch which we will  eat on the terrace of  La Terre D’Or.

The rest of the afternoon and evening is free for you to relax perhaps eating something purchased from the market. The kitchen at La Terre D’Or is available to you if required.

If you would prefer to have  a more active evening we could make some suggestions.
