Day 4
After breakfast, we are off to the rich and colourful meeting point of the “Beaunois”, the Saturday market and the major market day in Beaune.
Covering many city blocks, you can buy anything here that the appetite desires - fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese, and spices. Organic and local produce is available from the farms close-by. Elsewhere you can buy everything from antiques to berets.
We will be accompanied on this expedition by Marjorie Taylor. Marjorie has the Cook’s Atelier a cooking school that caters for all levels of cullinary expertise. Marjorie will accompany us on a market tour and will select produce for us to prepare for lunch back at the Cook’s Atelier. You can have as much involvement with the food preparartion as you wish or you may prefer to indulge in a quite wine whilst lunch is being prepared.
Marjorie’s Atelier (Studio) is on the second floor of a typical French downtown apartment and this in itself is a treat.
The rest of the afternoon and evening is free for you to relax perhaps eating something purchased from the market. An option is a visit to Chateau Savigny le Beaune – perhaps more suited to those with higher levels of testosterone (jet fighters, fire engines, racing cars, motor bikes, vineyard tractors amongst other things)
The kitchen at La Terre D’Or is available to you if required for preparing something for the evening meal – usually something from the market. Some groups plan the purchases from the market to result in a pot luck dinner in the evening.
If you would prefer to have a more active evening we could make some suggestions.
