Day 1

You will arrive in Beaune by mid afternoon, either by train or road depending from where in Europe you are travelling.

We would recommend coming by train. If coming from Paris the TGV from the Gare de Lyon will have you in Dijon in under 2 hours and then a local train takes another 20 minutes to Beaune.

The closest International airport is Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airportwhere the car hire companies represented at the airport include Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Citer and Sixt. The airport at Dijon – surprisingly – serves only some local commuting services and has no real international connections.

On arrival you will be met at a predetermined Beaune location and taken to your accommodation at La Terre D’Or, overlooking the city of Beaune. This will be your base for the whole of your stay in Beaune and where you will complete each day with a debriefing happy hour.

The first event after assembling will be to meet La Terre D’Or owner, Jean Louis, and together we will conduct a tasting/explanation of the Côte-D’Or geography.

We will explain the naming of Burgundy wines and how you should read the Burgundy wine labels. You will be taken through the hierarchy of Burgundy wines in terms of quality, firstly through the white wines and secondly through the red, starting at the basic Bourgogne, to the Village, Premier Cru and finally, the Grand Cru. This will give a reference point as regards to future tastings.

This introductory wine tasting is conducted in the La Terre D’Or wine cellar, itself dating back to Roman times.

With your taste buds well stimulated, dining will be at La Ciboulette. This is a local favourite and is rated Bib Gourmand by Michelin.
